The doors opening at the Tuulensuun Palatsi at 18:45 on Monday 25th April 2022, marked not only the start of our British Week Dinner in Tampere, but the beginning of our exciting British Week as a whole.
Once our guests of the evening had arrived – consisting of chamber members, members of the local business community, as well as local political figures – the B3CF entourage carrying HRH Prince Michael of Kent and our British business delegation arrived and positioned their Bentley's in stylish fashion outside of the venue. Eagerly waiting at the reception to welcome our special guests were Hannu Koivuniemi (Chairman of Taitokaari Oy), Aleksi Jäntti (Deputy Mayor of Tampere), as well as event sponsors, including Janne Hokkanen and Pasi Lahtinen from Kokkovuori Business Shooting Club.
Once greetings and gifts had been exchanged, and the media given a chance to capture the rare occasion, guests were seated to listen to Hannu Koivuniemi’s welcome speech. Our Executive Director Vladislav Dobrokhotov then gave an introduction concerning the British Week ahead, outlining the action-packed programme plan, before our Master of Ceremonies Kaj Kunnas took the reins with his usual charisma, giving a speech titled: ‘The next generation is always a better one’.
Tuulensuu Palatsi once again offered a delicious and very Finnish dinner, consisting of a gin-cured pike-perch with a horseradish cream and marinated chanterelles -starter, venison sirloin with a liquorice-red wine and roasted vegetables for the main course, and topping off with local farm cheese with jams, berries and meringue.
In addition to the speeches, guests were entertained by Duo Primadonnat (Annukka Nevalainen & Piia Kärnä).
The warm hospitality of the Tampere business community set a promising precedent for the following days, where The Prince and our British delegation would spend the following day visiting the Naistenlahti Powerplant and Nokia Areena, as well as partaking in a clay target shooting competition at the Kokkovuori Shooting Center, before returning to Helsinki for the British Week Platinum Jubilee 2022 Banquet.
