Statement from the British & Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce in Finland (B3CF)
23 August 2024
As an organisation committed to strengthening business relationships between the UK, the Commonwealth, and Finland, the British & Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce in Finland (B3CF) wishes to clarify its position regarding recent comments made by Garry Parker, a member of our board, in an article published in Helsingin Sanomat on 22 August 2024.
The article touches on important concerns about Finland's current immigration policies and their potential effects on international business and the economy. As a Chamber, we have always supported policies that promote an open, inclusive, and competitive business environment—one that welcomes global talent and investment to Finland.
While we believe in the importance of dialogue on these issues, we wish to highlight that the views expressed by Mr. Parker are his own and do not represent the official position of the B3CF. Our focus remains on constructive engagement with all stakeholders, including the Finnish government, to ensure that Finland continues to be a welcoming and thriving location for businesses globally.
We encourage respectful dialogue and invite all interested parties to join us in conversations aimed at finding balanced and forward-looking solutions that support Finland’s leadership in global business and innovation.
We look forward to continuing our work with the Finnish government, businesses, our members and stakeholders to foster a prosperous and inclusive future for Finland.
Pekka Halmet, Chairman
The British & Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce in Finland Ry
